Google has made another big renewable energy investment, putting $200 million into a Texas wind farm, said the Internet search giant in a post on its official blog.
The 161 megawatt project — called the Spinning Spur Wind Project — is located in Oldham County about 35 miles from Amarillo. It generates enough electricity to power more than 60,000 average U.S. homes or a large server farm.

Google says Spinning Spur is the tenth renewable energy project it has invested in since 2010. It estimates these projects are capable of generating 2 gigawatts of power.
The search behemoth said the projects are both good investments and good for the planet.
“We look for projects like Spinning Spur because, in addition to creating more renewable energy and strengthening the local economy, they also make for smart investments: they offer attractive returns relative to the risks and allow us to invest in a broad range of assets,” wrote Kojo Ako-Asare, Senior Manager of Corporate Finance at Google.
Google now has investments in five solar projects and five wind projects. Google has also been looking into other approaches for generating renewable energy, including geothermal energy.
