Secretary of Energy warns of dire future for agriculture in California

Secretary of Energy Steven Chu warned climate change could severely impact California agricultural industry by the end of the century, reported the Los Angeles Times.
Chu said the loss of up to 90 percent of Sierra snowpack — the main source of California's water — could dramatically impact the state's $35 billion farm economy.
"I don't think the American public has gripped in its gut what could happen," Chu was quoted as saying. "We're looking at a scenario where there's no more agriculture in California.
"I don't actually see how they can keep their cities going."
California is entering its third straight year of drought due to below normal snowfall.
