Yvette Sierra Praeli

Yvette Sierra Praeli is a Peruvian journalist who joined Mongabay Latam in 2017. She has dedicated herself to investigating environmental problems and crimes that impact on territories and people who live in Peru, but also in other countries of Latinamerica. Her investigations have revealed the mechanisms of land trafficking in the Peruvian Amazon; corruption and forgery of documents for illegal timber trafficking; the presence of illegal gold mining and drug trafficking in protected areas and indigenous territories; as well as the constant threats and murders of indigenous leaders and environmental defenders. Her work as an environmental journalist has also allowed her to write about scientific advances and discoveries of new species for science. She has a degree in Social Communication from the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos in Peru and has been a fellow of the International Center for Journalists in the United States, and the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at the University of Oxford, in England.
