Canon unveiled several new digital cameras Monday, including a 21.1-megapixel, full-frame model.

Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III

The Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III Digital SLR features a fast, five-frame-per-second (fps) shooting rate for bursts of up to 56 Large/Fine (21-megapixel) JPEGS or 12 RAW images and uses two DIGIC III imaging sensors for parallel signal processing. The EOS-1Ds Mark III autofocus (AF) system has 45 AF points including 19 high-precision cross-type points and 26 Assist AF points. The camera also introduces LCD-based shooting options -- a first for a Canon SLR -- that enables photographers to compose their shots using the three-inch LED screen rather than conventional SLR through-the-lens viewing. The camera further offers remote wireless transfer of images and an integrated cleaning system for removing dust from sensitive camera parts.

"The EOS-1Ds Mark III Digital SLR camera is a prime example of the EOS philosophy and Canon's ongoing commitment to providing photo professionals with the tools they need to create the finest quality images," stated Yuichi Ishizuka, senior vice president and general manager, Consumer Imaging Group, Canon U.S.A. "To continue our legacy, we must provide not only the right professional tools, but also the finest photo tools for the job and do so consistently, whether we are presenting this exemplary EOS-1Ds Mark III SLR camera, or any one of the many fine specialty lenses, flashes and accessories that populate the EOS professional photo system."

The Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III professional digital single lens reflex camera is scheduled to begin shipping in November and will have an estimated selling price of $7,999.

Canon EOS 40D Digital SLR

Canon also introduced the long-awaited EOS 40D, a mid-range digital SLR with a 10.1-megapixel CMOS imaging sensor and DIGIC III image processor. The 40D features a redesigned autofocus sensor (from the earlier 30D) and fast, 6.5 frame-per-second (fps) continuous shooting capability (for bursts of up to 75 Large/Fine JPEGs or 17 RAW images). Like the EOS-1Ds Mark III, the 40D has the Live View function for composing shots through its 2.5 inch LED display.

The Canon EOS 40D Digital SLR is scheduled for early September delivery and will be sold in a body-only configuration at an estimated selling price of $1,299.00i. It will additionally be offered in a kit version with Canon's EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM zoom lens at an estimated selling price of $1,499.00i.

Two Canon Digital ELPHs and a new PowerShot

For the point-and-shoot market, Canon introduced the 12.1-megapixel PowerShot SD950 IS Digital ELPH ($449.99) and the 8.0-megapixel resolution PowerShot SD870 IS Digital ELPH ($399.99).

Canon also announced a new PowerShot line – the SX series –. The first camera in the line, the ultra-zoom PowerShot SX100 IS digital camera features a 10x optical zoom, an Optical Image Stabilizer (OIS) and an extended grip ($299.99).

Canon recently ranked top among firms for its efforts to take action on climate change by Climate Counts, a nonprofit that works to promote responsible climate policy among corporations. Canon scored a 77, 4 points ahead of the next best company, Nike.
