July 10, 2005

Today mongabay.com, a leading rainforest information site, announced the launch of a photo blog featuring images of wilderness from around the world. The aim of the new blog, hosted on Google's blogger.com and found at mongabay.blogspot.com, is to raise interest and appreciation of wildlife and wildlands.

"I believe the daily photo blog is a strong addition to mongabay," says Rhett A. Butler, founder of the mongabay.com site. "The pictures will remind visitors that truly spectacular wild places still exist and that it is our collective best interest to preserve these lands for the enjoyment of future generations."

To date pictures that have appeared on the photo blog range from mountains on the south island of New Zealand to a turquoise chameleon endemic to the island of Madagascar. Everyday, visitors can expect to see a photo of a wild place or creature.

Mongabay.com is a web site that focuses on wildlands and wildlife conservation. Founded in 2001, the site today draws more than 2 million visitors per month. Last month, mongabay launched a kids version of its rainforest site at kids.mongabay.com.
