Kingsley Charles
Kingsley Charles is a freelance journalist living in Calabar, southeastern Nigeria. His work explores culture, climate change and the environment. His journalism career took off in 2022 following his report exposing sanitary decay in Calabar, long reputed as Nigeria’s cleanest city. Published on Al Jazeera, the story goaded the state authorities into a prompt clean-up exercise. Since then, his reporting has featured on both local and international media outlets, including Prime Progress and New Lines Magazine. In 2024, his feature on the rising cultural movement of Africanfuturism was selected for the fall semester curriculum for the Race and Speculation course at New York University. Along with reporting about wildlife loss and environmental rot, he is also focused on portraying how Indigenous communities adapt to ecological crises.
