Bonnie Waycott became interested in marine life when she learned to snorkel on the Sea of Japan coast near her mother's hometown. With a keen interest in the sustainability of aquaculture and fisheries, in particular issues related to adaptation, revival and resilience, she is a freelance writer specialising in Japan's aquaculture. Approaching the end of a distance learning MSc in Sustainable Aquaculture with the University of St Andrews, her thesis is on aquaculture recovery after the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami and how Japan may serve as an example to other countries that are vulnerable to natural disasters.
