Three dwarf mongoose were recently born at the Wildlife Conservation Society’s Bronx Zoo.
Native to sub-Saharan Africa, the dwarf mongoose is the smallest carnivore in Africa. The species lives in small groups led by a dominant male and female. They feed primarily on insects, including termites, beetles, grasshoppers, locusts, grubs and larvae, and generally weigh 200-350 grams (7-12 ounces)
These three pups and their parents can be seen on exhibit in the Wildlife Conservation Society’s Bronx Zoo Carter Giraffe Building. Also on exhibit are two dwarf mongooses in the Mouse House.
