Magnitude 4.5 earthquake hits Santa Rosa in Northern California

A magnitude 4.5 earthquake hit Rohnert Park Santa Rosa in Sonoma County, Northern California at 8:08 Pacific Daylight Time on Wednesday August 2, 2006. No damage was initially reported.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the quake was centered at 38.363°N, 122.589°W at a depth of 9.1 km (5.7 miles) [epicenter].
Santa Rosa is located about 50 miles from San Francisco and has a population of around 148,000 people. During the 1906 earthquake, downtown Santa Rosa was reduced to rubble. The city was also hit by significant quakes on October 1, 1969 and October 17, 1989.
