Benjamin Evine-Binet
Born in the Ogooué-Ivindo province of northeastern Gabon, Benjamin Evine-Binet have been living in the regional capital Makokou and working as a journalist there since 1990. In that time he has written newspaper articles, produced television news segments, and broadcast in-depth radio stories on a vast range of conservation issues (hunting, fishing, forestry, mining, human-wildlife conflict,
and more). His work has been conducted for many of Gabon’s premier outlets as well as inter-African agencies, and now international outlets such as National Geographic, UNESCO, ONUSIDA. Throughout his career, Benjamin has been resolutely community-based in his approach to storytelling and problem solving. He is the founder and director of Ivindo FM, a community radio station focused on environmental and social issues. Ivindo FM have already broadcast in-depth stories containing diverse perspectives on key regional conservation debates, and received support from National Geographic and UNESCO. The region’s only radio station, Ivindo FM is listened to with dedication by its audience of 50,000 people in the town of Makokou and across 72 rural villages.
