Aimable Twahirwa

Aimable Twahirwa is an award-winning senior science journalist based in Kigali, Rwanda. A journalist for 24 years, he has been covering various development related issues in Rwanda, the Central and the East African region with a growing interest on issues related to wildlife, Biodiversity and nature. Before joining Mongabay as Central and West Africa staff writer, he has published in-depth feature stories for other regional and international media organizations and global news agencies As a senior science writer, he has published for Nature scientific magazine, Inter Press Service (IPS), AllAfrica, Thomson Reuters Foundation (Alert Net), Scidev.Net and many other publications attracting global audience where he worked on long-term reporting projects that came to life in various multimedia combinations. A grantee for both the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) and the Louise Behan Reporting by the World Federation of Science Journalists (WFSJ), Twahirwa has traveled extensively in East, Central and West Africa, East Asia, Latin America and Europe to cover issues related to climate change and Biodiversity conservation. He is an Excellence in Journalism, Climate Change fellow at the Graduate School of Media and Communications of the Aga Khan University, Kenya in 2022 He has been media trainer and mentor for the Global Health Reporting Initiative of the International Women Media Foundation (IWMF), the African Climate Change and Environment Reporting (ACCER) academy and has also participated as mentor and associate in various initiative by the Solutions Journalism Network (SJN) focusing on climate change solutions.
