3.8 earthquake shakes San Francisco




A short 3.8-magnitude earthquake shook the San Francisco Bay Area Monday afternoon.



The quake occurred at a depth of 13.6 km (8.5 miles) and was centered between Pacifica and San Bruno, about 20 km (12 miles) from downtown San Francisco, according to the U.S. Geological Survey in Menlo Park.



The quake struck at 2:57 pm local time.



A 3.8-magnitude quake is considered minor.
