Reticulated giraffes (Giraffa camelopardalis reticulata), one of nine subspecies, are found in Somalia, Kenya, and Ethiopia. The world's tallest land animal, giraffes can stand as high as 5–6 meters (16–20 feet).

Giraffes are listed as Least Concern by the IUCN Red List, however a number of the subspecies are threatened with extinction. A 2007 genetic study found that some of the subspecies may in fact be full species in their own right, which would raise conservation urgency for those imperiled.
