Energy-efficient light bulbs made by Philips Electronics will be promoted alongside store displays for Al Gore's global warming documentary, "An Inconvenient Truth" at Wal-Mart stores, according to an article in today's issue of The Wall Street Journal (WSJ).
The WSJ reports that Phillips has launched a "massive marketing campaign" that includes promoting its compact-fluorescent bulbs on Wal-Mart displays for the DVD. Netherlands-based Philips even offers "coupons and mail-in rebates tied to the purchase of the DVD," according to the article.
According to the WSJ, Paris-based International Energy Agency estimates that "switching to compact fluorescents would cut world-wide electricity demand by 18% and reduce emissions of greenhouse gases."
