4.1-magnitude quake shakes San Francisco Bay Area




A 4.1-magnitude earthquake shook the San Francisco Bay Area Friday afternoon.


According to the U.S Geological Survey (USGS), the quake was centered about 4.4 miles deep, 11 miles north of Morgan Hill, or 21 miles southeast of San Jose.



The earthquake occurred at 4:10 pm local time. At 4.1 on the Richter magnitude scale, the quake rates “minor” to “light”.



The last major earthquake to strike the San Francisco Bay Area was the 1989 Loma Prieta quake, which caused roughly $6 billion in damage and killed 63 people. It registered 6.9 on the Richter scale.
