The Spectral Tarsier (Tarsius tarsier) is found on the island of Sulawesi and adjacent islands in Indonesia. It is characterized by huge eyes — it has the largest eye to body size ratio of all of the mammals.
Tarsiers are nocturnal and feed exclusively on insects, mostly grasshoppers. The Spectral Tarsier is the only totally carnivorous primate. It is also one of the smallest primates, with adult males rarely exceeding 100 grams (3.5 ounces) and a body length of 16 cm (6 inches) (its tail can reach 23 cm-9 inches).
The Spectral Tarsier is listed as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List due to habitat loss and collection for the pet trade.
Tarsiers are wild animals. They should never be kept as pets.
