With males averaging 25 pounds and females 14 pounds, the Yucatan Black Howler (Alouatta pigra) is the largest of the howler monkey species and one of the largest of the New World Monkeys. It is found in Belize, Guatemala and Mexico.

Like all howlers, the Yucatan Black Howler is known for its raucous call, which is uses for communication in its low-visibility rainforest habitat. Howlers feed primarily on leaves and fruit and are arboreal by nature.

The Yucatan Black Howler is listed as endangered on the IUCN Red List due to habitat loss, hunting, and collection for the pet trade.
